Kendal Art Society meets on a weekly basis throughout the year, with several outdoor meetings during the summer

Members and non-member guests are all welcome. If it is your first time, please introduce yourself or feel free to get in touch online ahead of a meeting so that someone knows to look out for you.

Our regular base is the Abbot Hall Social Centre in Kendal on Thursday mornings but please check here for timings and venues for individual events and meetings.

  • Group critique

Abbot Hall Adult Social Centre Dowker Lane, Kendal

Bring one or several of your paintings or sketches in to discuss with other members.

  • Calligraphy demonstration and ‘have a go’

Abbot Hall Adult Social Centre Dowker Lane, Kendal

I think most of us have always wished our handwriting was a little better than it is, so I am sure that this session with Terry Johnson, on calligraphy, will give us an insite in how to improve it and be able to write beautiful pages of letters and words. This will be a good…

  • Indoors or Outdoors

Abbot Hall Adult Social Centre Dowker Lane, Kendal

KAS summer programme starts today.  We have the hall for coffee and tea, but you can either use this time to sketch outdoors or stay inside and complete a painting

  • Sizergh Castle

Sizergh Castle Sizergh Castle, near Kendal, United Kingdom

A beautiful National Trust venue but which now has a hefty charge for parking! I would suggest that those of you who are members of the National Trust, car share with non-members.

  • Helsington Church. Map ref SD489889

Helsington Church Helsington, Cumbria, United Kingdom

This is another lovely location with amazing views although it can be very windswept.  The church always seems to be open so a good place to go if you get cold. Nowhere to get refreshments up here, so please bring your own.

  • Levens Hall Garden or Park. Levens Bridge entrance Map re SD 496853

Levens Hall and Garden Llevens Hall, Kendal, Cumbria

An impressive Elizabethan house with an interesting history, as well as the worlds oldest topiary. The car park is free but you have to pay to get in the grounds although there are many beautiful views around the site and in the Park. There is a very nice cafe which sells good coffee!

  • Barley Bridge, Stavely. Map ref SD 470987

Barley Bridge Barley Bridge, Hall Lane, Staveley, Cumbria

This Venue is at the weir in Staveley which can be good if there has been a lot of rain, but a short walk takes you to other views.  Nice part of the world. The post code isn't strictly correct but it is the nearest I could get to the site.  Park on Kentmere Road

  • Lucy Sclaters Ggarden

Cook House Church Road, Levens, Cumbria

Lucy has a beautiful garden in the delightful village of Levens. You can park in the road outside, but it would be a good idea to carshare as the road is not that wide.

  • Scout Scar Quarry Car Park. map ref SD 489925

Scout Scar Underbarrow Road, Kendal, Cumbria

Lets hope the weather is fine! Scout Scar is so well known to all who live in the area but it is still a wonderful place to visit. Don't rely on satnav because the post code covers a vast area.  Quarry Car Park is the second car park on the right after the road crosses…
