Kendal Art Society meets on a weekly basis throughout the year, with several outdoor meetings during the summer

Members and non-member guests are all welcome. If it is your first time, please introduce yourself or feel free to get in touch online ahead of a meeting so that someone knows to look out for you.

Our regular base is the Abbot Hall Social Centre in Kendal on Thursday mornings but please check here for timings and venues for individual events and meetings.

  • Problems with Perspective

  • Charcoal sketch of any subject that interests you

    Using charcoal is a an interesting medium if a trifle messy.  I would advise good quality cartridge in a decent size, and an easil helps (table top is fine).  If this all makes you shudder just come along and do what you want.  

  • Full day life drawing or painting

    A chance for you to sketch or paint a life model.  There is a fee of £20 for this full Saturday session. Tea and coffee available all day but bring your own lunch with you.

  • Group critique

    KAS summer programme starts today.  We have the hall for coffee and tea, but you can either use this time to sketch outdoors or stay inside and complete a painting

  • Sizergh Castle

    A beautiful National Trust venue but which now has a hefty charge for parking! I would suggest that those of you who are members of the National Trust, car share with non-members.

    This is another lovely location with amazing views although it can be very windswept.  The church always seems to be open so a good place to go if you get cold. Nowhere to get refreshments up here, so please bring your own.

    An impressive Elizabethan house with an interesting history, as well as the worlds oldest topiary. The car park is free but you have to pay to get in the grounds although there are many beautiful views around the site and in the Park. There is a very nice cafe which sells good coffee!
